Tomato Boxes

Sunday, December 7th, 2008 | Games

Tomato Boxes is a cool Sokoban puzzle game clone for DOS that I made way back in the late 90s. Back in 2007, I dug up the source and ported it to Windows. If you like simple puzzle games, give it a try! The backgrounds were inspired by EarthBound’s crazy backgrounds, though mine aren’t nearly as cool of course :P

ROFISH even ported it to the iPhone recently. I don’t have an iPhone so I don’t know anything about that stuff though.

For those of you who’ve played it, how far have you gotten? To be honest, there’s still a level or two that I haven’t been able to complete.

What’s Windows Mobile? The code isn’t too complicated, so it could probably be ported to most things without too much trouble. I could probably even make a GBA version if I put enough energy into it :P

My phone, as well as many others run it. I’d love to play tomato boxes on my phone :3

Hey Mato, I was wondering if you could release the Tomato Boxes source code, so we could do ports of it.
This game is really nice.
A GBA port would be great, as a lot of us here own flashcards. :p

Just imagine…trying to beat Tomato Boxes records on your car, on plane, or even to bring it to friends easily.

That’d be awesome? =D

I actually might do that, but I’d want to make some improvements and do some more documentation first. More than anything, the games were meant for programming practice, so it’s not as logical as it could be :P

There’s also a DS port by JeffMan… I don’t remember where or when I got it, but it’s on my DS.

Something slows down the game on my computer (it takes 100% CPU)
It’s a great idea though!

BTW if you select the color of every pixel depending on its x and y it can lead to some really cool effects… but it’s a bit slow even with the OpenLayer plugin for Allegro.
I hope they finish ShaderLayer soon :D
I can show you some effects if you want… I’m currently studying Allegro and experimenting with it :)
