> Hmm...maybe. I did a quick web search and discovered that Ayn Rand's (the only Ayn I've heard of) name is supposed to rhyme with "pine." That might be a bit too far off. I'm not sure Ann or Anne doesn't work...I'd have to think about it, though. Of course, I want to hear what other people thoughts are on these, too.

Well, why not just leave it as An?

> Random weirdness: the fourth page of my Google search for "Ayn pronounced" included a link to Rebecca Capowski's Phantasy Star Compendium translation.

o_O

> : I wanted to bring up one more point though. On the save screen, we're limited to five characters for world names, so "Grass Country" is obviously not going to fit. We could always just call 'em "Grass", "Flower" and "Woods" or something, but that sounds kinda blah if you ask me... I was thinking of something along the lines of Terra for the Grass World, Flora for the flower world, and... erm, something for the forest world. Maybe Horta, but that sounds kinda weird too ^^;

> Interesting...yeah, those issues are gonna be tricky. Also, have you tried changing the text for when you come out of the Tree? Is that limited to five characters? (I think I saw spaces before it, but it would suck uncentered.)

Those are stored as plain text, I believe.

> I actually like the idea of giving the worlds slightly more poetic names; "Flora" isn't that far removed from "Land/Country/World of Flowers" anyway. Besides, if it's limited to five characters as you said, we'd end up with Flowe on the save screen. :) Unless there was squishy text.

PreCISELY.

> Also, giving them shorter poetic names as opposed to longer specific names would cumulatively mean a whole bunch of bytes open for other text. They're names anyway, so I think we can afford to be looser: "This land used to be called 'hana no kuni [flower land],'" "This land used to be called 'Flora,'" "This land used to be called 'Bob'"...same overall sense.

Yep, that's sorta what I was thinking.

> Grass World: "Terra" sounds kinda nice to me, although the meaning seems a little different (alluding more to earth than to grass). Another one I've come up with is "Verda" from verdant ("Covered with growing plants or grass; green; fresh; flourishing; as, verdant fields; a verdant lawn."). How does that sound to you? I'm still debating whether it sounds weird or not, but the meaning seems pretty solid.

It's closer to the original meaning, yeah. I kinda like it.

> Flower World: I like "Flora." It seems to fit, too.

Yes.

> Forest World: I agree that Horta sounds...off. :) Also, horticulture has more to do with gardening (Webster's says it's from Latin hortus, garden). But I've got another suggestion. How about...Sylva! As it turns out, "sylvan" means "Relating to or characteristic of woods or forest regions (American Heritage Dictionary)" and that kinda stuff. In fact, "sylva" itself is a word meaning "The forest trees of a region or country, considered collectively (Webster's)." It kinda all fits, to me at least. I vote for Verda (maybe), Flora, and Sylva, myself...anyone have any other ideas?

Actually, I kinda like that. Terra was simply the only thing I could come up with, and I got Horta from Horteka in Skies of Arcadia ^_^; Verda, Flora, and Sylva sound good to me!

> Thanks, Gid! ^^

yaya ^^ Expect to see some TRs from Mouryou Senki showing up on here soon, as I finished the substring table during CSC211 today! ^_^
