Title: Benkei Gaiden Another cool, yet way-overlooked game. The game is very traditional Japanese-ish, which makes sense, because it takes place about 800 years ago in feudal Japan. It has to do with Kublai Khan getting mad at Japan because of the "kamikaze" divine winds (aka a typhoon) killing the Mongols who were ready to invade Japan. Also involved somehow are Minamoto Yoshitsune and Musashibo Benkei, who, if you know your Japanese culture aside from anime and j-pop, are the most celebrated historical figures in Japan. The game came out in 1992, but it has pretty good graphics. The text is also difficult and has lots of dialect-type stuff and some classical-type Japanese, plus lots of kanji, so it's not for people just learning the language. From what I've played, this game is pretty fun, and I'd love to see a translation of it, or even work on a translation of it. But as usual, lack of any spare time plus lack of desire to hack the game myself keeps it from getting done. If in the future I ever do get free time to work on stuff, I'd really want to translate this one if an experienced hacker would help. |
