Title: Far East of Eden Zero DeJap has this on its to-do-list, and I assume they're gonna do it eventually. This is one game I *definitely* wanna translate. It's too hard to express exactly why. All the elements of a good game are here: it's fun, it's got awesome graphics, cool music, tons of weird stuff, a totally wacky script, and more. This game is so huge that they had to use a special chip to hold all the compressed data. Apparently when in its uncompressed and unoptimized form, it spans over 140 Mb (or was that MB? I forget). This chip hasn't been figured out yet, so you can't just run the ROM normally, you have to download "graphic packs" which is really confusing for most newbies. The game also features another neat innovation: a real-time clock. A lot of stuff in the game uses this feature. Time passes in the game exactly the same it does here, so if you don't play the game for a week and come back, a week will have passed within the game. I can't do this feature justice, suffice it to say that the clock isn't just some cheap little gimmick. The game is HUGE. To put it in perspective, the script is about 1 meg. Bahamut Lagoon's script was only about 300KB, and Star Ocean was only about 600KB. So if I ever do get around to translating this script, it'll be quite a task... I also want to translate this game because I can see my editing skills increasing dramatically. The game reminds me of a lot of games all mushed together, including quite a lot of EarthBoundy-ness. The game's script will definitely need some hilarious and good script editing, and having had so much experience with EarthBound, I'd like to get more practice script editing in that style. Unfortunately, the game is so huge that a translation will take a very long time. Not only is there a lot to translate, but a lot to hack. The game is very Japanesey, and because of that a lot of difficult hacks will probably be necessary. Unless you like your spell names to be only 2 letters long ;) This game is very Japanesey. The best way to describe it would be an RPG that is like EarthBound but with a lot of Goemon-type atmosphere, but also with tons of side quests and miscellaneous things to do. This is one game that is definitely way overlooked. |
