Lately I've been looking into different story games that were released for the Super Famicom. I'm bored of translating normal games lately. I like these kinds of games because there is at least something new and different in their presentation and content. All RPGs have the same stupid villagers saying the same stupid crap, and it gets tiring after a while. So that's why I've taken a liking to these rarer, often-shunned games.

A good thing about these text games for the SFC is that they have really good gfx and music. Really good. That's at least one reason why sceptics should give these games a try. The stories are usually pretty cool too, they're not as long and drawn-out as real novels, so they have a quick pace to them.

This particular game is literally translated as "Scary Stories At School". In Japan lots and lots of ghost stories revolve around schools, especially the so-called "old school buildings" that aren't in use anymore. That's usually where all the evil spirits and stuff lurk.

Anyway, this particular game is about 7 stories that took place/are taking place at this one school. You're a school newspaper reporter doing a report on old ghost stories about the school, because the old school building is about to be torn down. But then things start happening and you wind up involved in stuff......

For this game, I'd only want to do translating. I don't wanna do any hacking. So if some kind, able hacker could hook up with me that'd be cool. I don't know how much text there is and how much time I'll have or when I'll be able to finish, but I'm sure I can finish it quick enough. It took me 2 weeks to do the Star Ocean 1st draft script, which is a pretty hefty script.

Note of course that the hacking part of this game will include:

  • Changing the text direction from vertical to horizontal
  • A VWF would be awesome but probably not 100% required. We get to use the entire screen for text, not teeny weeny text boxes :)
  • Various misc gfx like the title screen
  • Script dumping/inserting (dunno about the control code situation)
  • Hacking the name entry screen
  • Maybe other stuff too
But all in all it's probably not THAT evil a game to hack. Unlike RPGs, this game doesn't have a zillion different menus and options and stuff to translate/hack/test. Mainly it's just dialogue text and that's about it. So somebody help pleazy.
