  • Tomato's Stuff
  • Hello. This page is where I (Tomato) put up stuff relating to the SNES game Bahamut Lagoon and stuff about the Bahamut Lagoon translation. The main reason for making this tiny BL site is mainly because I had this cool logo sitting on my computer for a year and decided to finally put it to use. Plus whenever the patch is finished I can put up various info about the translation, problems we had, decisions we had to make, lots of pics, etc. up here. I don't intend for this to be some Bahamut Lagoon supersite, so if somebody wants to go and make some huge BL site be my guest. I have neither the time nor desire to make a gigantic BL site.

  • What is Bahamut Lagoon?
Bahamut Lagoon BL a very cool strategy/RPG hybrid made by Square for the Super Famicom in 1996. It's an RPG in that you walk around places and talk to people, buy things, and the like. The battles are also kind of like Final Fantasy VI. Unlike FFVI, however, you get to control multiple parties and move them around maps to attack enemies strategy game-style.

A cool feature of this game is that you can alter the maps to your advantage (or disadvantage). If the enemy's in a forest, light the forest on fire and they'll receive damage as long as they stay there. Destroy bridges, create ice walkways, destroy walls, and more.

The game itself is rather linear. But that doesn't make it boring. One of the biggest parts of the game is raising your attack dragons. Depending on what you feed them, they might become Master Dragons, or they might become wimpy, weird looking dragons that do nothing. There are tons of types of dragons they can become, so raising them and evolving them into different forms will keep you occupied. Don't worry, it's not as lame as it sounds :D

Another cool feature is a New Game + type thing. After you finish the game, you can start over with all your stats and items! With that, and the extra bonus dungeons (which can be really hard), you'll be spending a lot of time playing this game.

Square does a lot of nifty effects to achieve some of the best SNES graphics ever. It's certainly one of the prettiest 2D RPGs out there, and the battle animations... well they're just sweet. You'll think it's a PSX game or something.

  • Is Bahamut Lagoon playable in English???
Bahamut Lagoon Neill Corlett (the person who did Seiken Densetsu 3), Dark Force (Tales of Phantasia, Dragon Quest V, Bastard!, and more), and I teamed up to do a translation of this game. It took several years for it to get finished, but it's done at last! All of the text in the game has been translated AND edited to sound good, and all of the stuff in the game that needed to be hacked has been hacked.

As for the quality of the translation, I don't think that even needs to be questioned. The hackers have gone out of their way to do even more reprogramming than professional SNES programmers did when bringing games to the English-speaking world. I also spent a lot of time playing the game, and months of work editing my translated script. While I have to admit that my English writing skills aren't that great, I think for a game, especially a fan-translated game, this is a really good translation.

  • When will you release the patch?! Please tell me!
Do you get the hint yet? IT'S OUT NOW. This a fan translation, we've done hundreds and hundreds of hours of work on this game, all in our spare time, so show some dignity - don't go stealing our work, claiming it as your own, or trying to sell it. That's just really screwed up. You can download the latest patch from the download page.
